United Airlines Check-in Methods
Passengers can check-in on United Airlines flights by visiting the airport or using the online medium. In most situations, the online check-in is preferable since it allows least hassles. 1. Airport Check-in: Passengers are required to be at the airport for check-in purposes. For domestic flights, passengers shall complete check-in at least 45 minutes before departure time. For international flights, the check in shall be done at least 60 minutes before departure. These are the general timelines, however, it is suggested to check the timelines for completion of the check-in process.
2. Online Check-in: United Airlines web check-in begins 24 hours before and up to 1 hour before the scheduled departure time of the flight. Passengers can make use of the airline website or its mobile application for online check-in.
United Airlines Frequent Flyer Program
MileagePlus is the loyalty rewards program of the airline. The program is based on mile points earned and which can also be redeemed. The earning and redemption of points can be done in different ways.
The miles can be earned by flying with the airline and the partners, staying in hotels and vacation rentals, using car rental services, credit cards, shopping and with home and financial partners of the airline.
These can be redeemed by flying on the award flights and on cabin class upgrades.
This program has 4 levels of membership-Silver, Gold, Platinum and 1K.
Baggage Allowance
United Airlines Baggage Policy
United Airlines does not provide free baggage allowance, generally. The check-in baggage fee varies depending on the number of check-in bags being taken, frequent flyer status, cabin class and travel route.
1. Carry-On Baggage: The airline allows passengers to carry one carry-on baggage and one personal item free of charge. Maximum size of carry-on baggage is linear dimensions of 9 inches (22 cm) x 14 inches (35 cm) x 22 inches (56 cm).
Personal items shall not exceed 9 inches (22 cm) x 10 inches (25 cm) x 17 inches (43 cm) dimension.
2. Check-in Baggage: United does not allow free checked baggage in general. It allows you to bring two check in bags of linear dimensions 62 inches and weight 51 lbs per bag. The weight of check in baggage per bag can differ depending on cabin class of travel and member status. United Economy allows up to 50 lbs, and other higher class allow 70 lbs bag.
Similarly, Premier Silver, Gold, Platinum and 1K members are allowed 70 lbs max weight per bag.
Special baggage, including sports and musical equipments can also be carried as per the airline policy.
